MP Local: Lock Stock & Barrel

It's time for another #mplocal and now more than ever is so important to show some love to small businesses. Things have definitely changed over the last few weeks and many businesses have had to close their doors for the foreseeable future - just like today's feature - lock stock and barrel salon!

We absolutely love these twin boss babes and the space they've created. It doesn't feel like a typical salon, from the moment you walk in you are greeted, offered yummy Smile Tiger Coffee and it feels like you're catching up with a friends! Not to mention the space is absolutely beautiful!

Show these #bossbabes some love - now let's get into the feature... meet Ryan and Alecs!

Name: Lock Stock & Barrel Salon - Rhyan and Alecs Sweete

Your title: Hair Ninjas by day, super twins by night

Your elevator pitch:

We spend our days listening, caring, fixing, laughing, creating, solving, and recommending. We get to meet the greatest people, work with the greatest people, and also laugh with the greatest people.

One word to describe yourself:

Determined, Motivated (we get two because we are twins lol)

Why did you choose that word?

It describes our journey. We have always had motivation since we were young girls. Being determined is what has kept us going.

Why did you start the business that you did and what was the inspiration or reasoning of how it came it life?

We have been stylists for a long time, we always knew that this was going to eventually be one of the steps we took. It was all about timing. Although we think if you ask other small business owners they will all agree, it never feels like the exact right time. Sometimes you just have to jump all in Lock Stock & Barrel. ;)

First thought when you officially became your own boss:

Fear, excitement, committed.

When you’re not hustling, what do you do in your free time?

We both love to get together and just talk about the business. You can ask our guys if we aren’t at work together we are on the phone talking about work together! We love to talk about the future. Oh and also cuddling our animals!!!

Describe a day in your life:

We are both early risers, we both try to take time ourselves at the start of the day. That is usually a bath, or yoga. Then COFFEE!!!!! We always have a morning chat about the day, the business, and how this day will look and what we can do to make it go smoother. We are behind the chair from 11-8pm everyday doing what we love. When we get home we leave 30 minutes to answer email, and clients. Then an hour free with our spouses and fur babies, because balance is soooo important.

What is your biggest accomplishment?

Our Salon!! :)

What are your top 3 bucket list items?

1. We have some future aspirations for the salon they are a bit of a, secret but some fun things coming by summer!

2. Eventually a second location with a collaboration!

3. To change the way the salon world works, and provide a space with a good work life balance.

What or who inspires you to keep doing what you’re doing?

Our clients

What animal do you relate with and why?

Rhyan - ok so I answered this question first without telling Alecs my answer to see what she would say…. I literally freaked out when she said exactly the same thing!! I don’t know why I was so surprised we are identical twins lol! this confirms why we work so well together because we are good at being in a pack. We both said Lioness. We can be affectionate and chill, but fiercely protective as well. Oh and don’t forget the eyelashes, they have great eyelashes!!!

What is your daily mantra?

Breath!

Seriously everything will work out in the end. We just have to remind ourselves to breath sometimes.

We also always come back to our original vision and mission when making really hard decisions. If we are ever unsure we always just make sure the decision feels right with who we really are, and what we are trying to do.

What are some tips and tricks you use to stay motivated?

Education. This industry is forever changing which keeps you on your toes. Doing classes and online training always keeps us motivated.

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learnt along the way?

Get a lawyer to look over absolutely everything, even if you think it isn’t that important it is. One day we will tell our story of how we created our dream salon, and the mistakes we made along the way. (we definitely made a few). It sometimes felt we were on our own navigating this winding road to open a small business. We hope one day we can help other entrepreneurs with their journeys.

Also trust your gut, it is always right!

What’s next for you?

Next for us to keep moving forward we are only 5 months into the business, I’m not sure we have even come up for air yet. We look forward to the first year under our belts!

Oh and Alecs got married in September now it’s Rhyan’s turn in July! So we both get to enjoy being newlyweds!
