It’s one of those things where you kind of know what it means but don’t at the same time. Who can relate? Well, not to worry – we’re here to help you out!
The most basic definition:
Organic search is when someone finds your site or content on search engines naturally. Meaning they’ve typed something in a search bar and your site came up due to relevancy and ranking of what you typed in.
The algorithm (oh, the good ol algorithm…) has decided that those websites have the most useful information for you. They rank highly based off the keywords that they use. Google has placed them at the top because it’s the most amount of content that is relevant to what you are searching.
Paid search is when you pay money to have your site come up on the first few pages of a search engine. Depending on the amount of money you pay towards your ads will determine your ranking amongst the others.
Many of times, ads that are paid for by the business are to promote their content. It can be a good return on investment if you know what you are doing.
There are pros to both options. If you know how to use Adword campaigns to rank your site higher on search engines, it can be great for getting traffic to your website and therefore growing your business. It’s a great opportunity to get your business the visibility it deserves.
However, people trust organic searches more than those that are paid to be at the top. Organic search continues to grow whereas paid search puts you in a position to continue to invest money if you want to stay at the top.
Organic results are a natural growth and show that you are optimizing your content to ensure you are reaching your audience. To get your site to rank higher you need to use SEO techniques, read our blog on SEO tips for small businesses: rank higher.
